Things to know
At River Table, we share the following advice not to restrict use, but to ensure all tables supplied to our clients continue to look and perform as intended for many years to come.
A River or Live Edge Resin Table is a natural, hand-finished piece of furniture, designed to be used and enjoyed every day. Like all high-quality materials, solid wood and resin perform best when cared for correctly.
The guidance below reflects the way our tables are designed, finished, and tested, and following it will help preserve appearance, performance, and longevity over time.
Caring for Your Table
Every table produced by River Table is finished using Odies Oil, selected for its durability, natural appearance, and ease of maintenance. This penetrating finish protects the timber while allowing it to breathe, enhancing the grain and character of the wood without creating a surface film. The result is a tactile, refined finish that ages gracefully with use.
Everyday Care
For regular care, wipe the surface with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. This is sufficient for everyday dust, fingerprints, and general use. Avoid harsh chemicals, silicone-based sprays, or abrasive pads, as these can damage the finish and reduce the natural lustre of both timber and resin.
Spills & General Use
Spills should be wiped away promptly using a clean, dry cloth. While Odies Oil offers excellent protection against everyday use, solid wood remains a natural material and should not be exposed to standing moisture for extended periods. Using coasters and placemats in high-use areas will help maintain the finish and appearance over time.
Refreshing the Finish
One of the key benefits of an Odies Oil finish is its repairability. Should areas show signs of wear, light marking, or dullness, they can be refreshed locally without sanding the entire tabletop. This allows discreet maintenance and ensures the table can be kept looking its best without invasive refinishing.
Environment & Placement
Solid wood responds naturally to changes in temperature and humidity. We recommend positioning your table away from direct heat sources such as radiators, underfloor heating outlets, and prolonged direct sunlight. Maintaining a stable environment helps preserve both the timber and resin, supporting long-term stability and appearance.
Long-Term Care & Enjoyment
Your table is designed to be lived with, not preserved as a static object. Over time, subtle changes in character are part of the appeal of natural materials. With simple, considered care and occasional maintenance, your table will retain its strength, finish, and presence, continuing to serve as a centrepiece within your space for many years.
